Migrant healthcare experiences
This short report provides feedback that local Healthwatch across York, North Yorkshire and Hull have recently heard from people.
We heard about dentistry, hospitals, and GP access.
You helped to highlight that healthcare access continues to be the key issue - whether it be access to GP appointments, hospital appointments, or booking an appointment with an NHS dentist.
You told us about language barriers and information not being accessible and the importance of better communication.
What happens next?
We ask that service providers and commissioners who are mentioned in this report act on the feedback and insight and share with us what actions they have or intend to take to remedy these concerns.
This includes the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, who work together with NHS organisations, North Yorkshire Council, local Healthwatch, hospices, charities, volunteers and organisations out in the community to improve health and well-being. Working together in this way is called an integrated care system.
As your independent champion when it comes to healthcare services, we have the legal powers to make sure NHS leaders and other decision makers hear your voice and use your feedback to improve care.
We recognise the pressures NHS and social care services face, as well as the hard work and commitment from the staff delivering care and those who plan an deliver the services. We work with them and the community to come up with solutions.
We will include any responses to our report from providers and those who plan services on our website and in our regular newsletters.
We will continue to call on the Government to ask for more to be done to support services, patients and their loved ones.
