Enter and View: Boroughbridge Manor
Our enter and view team visited Boroughbridge Manor Lodge on 21st February 2017 and have reported on their findings.
Summary
Our enter and view visit at Boroughbridge Manor Lodge was an announced visit. The focus of this visit was to ascertain the following:
- The degree to which residents and their relatives felt that care was provided appropriately, and how involved they felt in the ongoing development of that care.
- Whether effective systems were in place to recognise changes in the needs of residents, and to ensure that any changes were communicated appropriately so that they could be acted on.
- Whether personal care plans existed, and to what extent they added value to the care provision at the home.
- The thoughts of staff and management within the service on the level of support provided to them, and in terms of training and clinical support as residents need become more complex.
Recommendations
- The Home environment - particularly on the upper 2 floors - could be more consistently dementia friendly in décor and signage, with particular regard to the toilets and bathrooms signage and colour to identify them from adjacent bedroom doors, for the benefit of all dementia residents.
- All residents and staff should have the facility for antiseptic hand gels or wipes in the absence of hand washing to avoid spreading germs and infection. This is particularly true for residents before and after meals, where they are immobile or unable to comprehend, then it is essential this facility is available
