The NHS Long Term Plan - What Would North Yorkshire Do?
Summary
The NHS England and NHS Improvement funded the Healthwatch network to carry out engagement with communities across the country to establish how the Long Term Plan (LTP) should be implemented locally. 530 people across North Yorkshire engaged with us through three surveys and four focus groups.
Key findings:
- People wanted to be more involved in the management of their care and to make joint decisions with professionals.
- People wanted timely appointments and routes which allow them opportunities to speak with professionals in a timely manner.
- As people age they want to maintain their independence by staying in their own homes.
- People wanted to see more joined-up working between services to enhance their care and ensure smooth transitions.
- There were pros and cons to using technology for patients.
- People want better access to help and treatment to support them in living a healthy life.
- There is a need for faster access to improve diagnosis and initial assessments.
- Despite poor expectations, people want to be involved in more strategic decision-making.
The feedback we have gathered from this project will be shared with local stakeholders and the public and will be considered alongside our other feedback when identifying priorities for our future work
