What stops the farming community getting help when unwell?
We know that people from farming communities do not always use the health services they are entitled to, as much or as soon as they could. We want to find out what might be stopping you or someone in your family from getting help for health and well-being issues and what services could do to make them work better for the farming community.
A report from the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution from their Big Farming Survey revealed that across England and Wales there are mental health, well-being and physical health issues impacting the farming community. This has been supported by a Farmers’ Weekly study which showed that mental health particularly affects farmers.
Your views matter
We want to hear from people across all aspects of farming. You can have your say in different ways:
- Fill in our short anonymous survey.
- One to one conversations – if you would like to speak to us one to one get in touch by calling 01423 788 128 (Monday to Friday between 9am until 5pm) or email hello@hwny.co.uk and we will arrange a time to speak with you.
- We will be at various agricultural shows and auction marts across North Yorkshire from August to October 2024. Email hello@hwny.co.uk and we will let you know which ones we will be at.
The survey closes on Thursday 31 October 2024 at 5pm.
What will happen as a result of your feedback?
Your feedback will be shared anonymously with the NHS and organisations that support the farming community in North Yorkshire, including the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, The Farming Community Network, National Farmers Union, and The Farmer Network. This will help them develop better resources and services that meet your needs.
