As an independent charitable incorporated organisation delivering statutory duties, our sole purpose is to make care better. We talk to people about their experiences, make recommendations to those in charge about what needs to change, and signpost the public about where to go for advice, information and support.
As part of being a people’s champion, we are governed by a board of trustees to make sure we’re running smoothly as an organisation. Our trustees are responsible for making sure we are doing what we were set up to do and following charity legislation. They work closely with the chief executive and staff and are a valued and important part of the Healthwatch North Yorkshire team.
Being a trustee for Healthwatch North Yorkshire is a great way to use your skills and experience to support and help us achieve our aims and help to make a difference to the people of North Yorkshire.
Expectations of the role
Time committment: Approximately two days a month
Expenses will be covered.
We expect you to work as a team with other trustees to guide the organisation, support and support the Chief Executive Officer and ensure financial responsibility while making the best use of our resources. Transparency and adherence to Healthwatch values are essential.
Your role involves keeping the board running smoothly, resolving any issues that arise, and representing Healthwatch North Yorkshire in your community and beyond. You’ll also take part in trustee appraisals to continually improve your contribution.
You’ll help us listen to people across the county, particularly those facing health inequalities. The board meets four times a year with additional workshops or meetings as needed, either in person or online. This is a voluntary role, but we’ll cover travel and any other reasonable expenses.
We ask you to attend board meetings, contribute to decisions, follow policies, and collaborate well with others. Upholding the Nolan principles—honesty, openness, and accountability—is essential. You should represent Healthwatch North Yorkshire positively at events, seek learning and development opportunities, and participate in extra meetings, workshops, and committees. Preparing for meetings by reading reports and staying informed is also key.
Your time and effort will help improve health and social care for everyone.
